The For Goodness Cakes story began back in early 2002, while I was working as a software developer for Delta Air Lines. A friend from church invited me to a cake decorating class at Michaels craft store. I had no interest in doing cakes, because I can’t even cook. But she begged, so I eventually went. The first night we decorated a cake in class, everyone came over to mine and said how great it looked. I said “it’s just a stupid rainbow”, but as I looked around the table, I noticed a distinct difference in my cake and realized that maybe this was my hidden talent.
About the same time, I had made a carrot cake for my manager’s birthday and he shared it with everyone. By the end of the day, people were walking by me in the hallway and raving about that carrot cake. So I figured that maybe this could become a new career for me. I became obsessed with cakes and all the neat designs you can create. I struggled in the beginning, try to create recipes that were worthy of selling, but once I overcame that hurdle, the fun really began.
I attend yearly international cake conventions, along with seminars and classes to improve my skills and learn new techniques to offer my customers the best cakes out there. I finally quit my Delta job in 2005 and haven’t looked back since.
If you not only want a really great cake, but are also looking for individual attention and personal service, you have come to the right place. Many of my customers are like friends now, because it’s not just about make a cake sale, it’s about getting to know people. A great deal of my satisfaction comes from being part of happy occasions in people’s lives (weddings, birthdays, baby showers, etc.) I cherish each of my customers and look forward to being a part of your family’s celebrations.
I’ve been told by many customers that my story inspires them. They tell me how lucky I am to have found my passion in life. I truly feel blessed to be where I’m at right now and look forward to what the future has to hold. It’s funny looking back at where I’ve been – 7 years as a radio announcer/DJ, many years of waiting tables, getting my Electrical Engineering degree, 9 years as a software developer, and now cakes! Keep looking for your passion – you never know when it will fall into your lap like mine did. Even if you aren’t a spring chicken anymore, it’s never too late to go after what you love. I always remember the saying, “Life is an adventure, not a guided tour.” So enjoy the journey!
